We usually don’t publish the many ways we assist Veterans in this community but this is a special case and the Veteran approved this.
This Veteran called our Post Commander and asked for assistance. He served two tours in Afghanistan. He needed a hand up. Our Post Commander met him at River Road Park on Presidents Day and provided him an application for assistance from the Texas VFW Foundation, a 501(c)(3). A letter confirming the commitment to pay was given to this Veterans landlord the landlord said if the check for rent wasn’t received today the landlord would change the locks and throw this Veteran and his wife out. Only four days had passed since the Veteran asked for help. Tonight, our Post Commander drove near Austin from Boerne and picked up the check from a Texas VFW Foundation employee then drove back to Boerne and gave the check to this Veteran. This Veteran took great pride in being able to deposit the check in the Dropbox himself. If you know of a Veteran experiencing difficulties please refer them to VFW Post 688. If you know of anyone mistreating a Veteran please let us know. Keep your eyes on the Boerne Star and Hill Country Weekly for the full version of this story.
