Today May 28, 2018 VFW Post 688, the Second Oldest VFW Post in Texas Honored those who gave all during services at Boerne Cemetery, Heritage Place of Boerne, finishing the day back at the Boerne Cemetery with retreval of the flags from the graves with the Post Commander Andrew Camplen barbecuing for the kids who assisted us.
The day began at the Boerne Cemetery where members of VFW Post 688 and family members arrived early set up for our 2018 Memorial Day Ceremony. The crowd began to arrive around 11:00. In attendance were special guest three World War II Vets arranged by San Antonio Honor Flight (one of which was at Normandy), Gold Star Families, Veterans from all branches, Active Duty Service Members, Boerne Police, family and friends.
After a brief welcome from the post commander the ceremony began with VFW Post 688 Rifle Squad firing off Ceremonial Three Volleys immediately followed by TAPS played by Jim Manzo, CWO (Ret), and Missing Man Formation Fly Over.
Opening Prayer was conducted by VFW Post Chaplain followed by our memorial day message, Recognition of Gold Star Families, Colors raised to full staff and playing of the National Anthem by Jim Manzo, CWO (Ret).
Our Ceremony ended at the Boerne Cemetery with Jim Manzo playing “God Bless America with assistance from those in attendance singing along, a closing prayer by the Post Chaplain and Closing Remarks by Post Commander Andrew Camplen.
